How to stream server audio over Mumble with VAC
Ignore this unless you're the one running the server and even then bleeeeeh.
- Install VAC (bug me if you need the password)
-
To get VAC to work you need to enable Test Mode because Windows hates
third party drivers:
- Install DSEO
- Antivirus software hates DSEO if you try run it so disable it whenever you need to run DSEO.
- Run DSEO as an admin.
- Enable Test Mode.
- Certify C:\Windows\System32\drivers\vrtaucbl.sys
- Reboot.
- Set Line 1 to be the default playback device.
- Launch Mumble twice; use the -m flag.
-
The first instance will broadcast all the audio from your computer:
- Audio input device set to Line 1.
- Transmit set to either Continuous or Voice Activity with a low threshold.
- Audio output device set to your speakers, but volume set to 0%.
- Turn off attenuating while others talk.
-
The second instance will broadcast your microphone audio:
- Audio input device set to your microphone.
- Audio output device set to your speakers.
- If you want to stick with one Mumble instance, you can use Lilith's method, but then you're always transmitting microphone output rather than by volume, and Audio Repeaters work intermittently for me.
- You'll have to redo Mumble settings each time.
- TODO: How do we make the server audio quieter?
- TODO: How do we use a non-shitty codec for server audio?
- Should we even be bothering with Mumble? Maybe have everyone listening to a stream on the side?
