Additional challenges
Thank you for reading through this tutorial! Pesky Goblins is a very simple scenario, but it's one that's designed to include and illustrate 90% of the features that Blades of Avernum has to offer. If you want to challenge yourself some more, download the final version of Pesky Goblins and modify it to add the following elements (no help from me; you'll have to read the documentation youself!):
- Display a custom image in your intro text.
- Give the merchant and guard names. Try to do this without using custom creature types.
- Display portraits of the merchant and guard during dialogue.
- Add/change background sounds for the towns and outdoor section.
- Have goblins spawn as wandering monsters in the outdoor section.
- Put a trapped chest in the goblin's hideout using one of the default included terrain scripts.
- Have the merchant reduce her shops' prices once the player returns the necklace.
- Instead of rewarding the player with gold, have the guard reward the player by offering training in one or more skills.
- Remove the bridge, and make the player use a boat to get from one side of the outdoor section to the other.
- Instead of removing the chest after the goblin jumps out of it, replace it with a custom terrain of a broken chest (make sure characters can walk through it).
- Have the guard join the party as a companion.
- Using variable town entry, have a group of goblins take over and fortify the merchant's tunnel when the player returns.
