Creating a new scenario

It's time to start making this scenario! Let's open up the Editor and choose the 'New Scenario' option:

Click that, and you'll see the dialog box below appear asking for the scenario's name. Give the scenario whatever name you want for the first field, as long as it's less than 49 characters (letters, numbers, or spaces) long. This will be the name that appears when you click 'Enter Scenario' while playing Blades of Avernum. Put a shortened version of the scenario's name for the second field (you can put numbers in the second field if you want). Finally, you have to decide if the outdoor sections and starting town will use grass floors or cave floors. It doesn't matter for the tutorial scenario's plot, so let's leave the box unchecked. You can always change your mind later.

Click 'OK' to go to the next dialog box. Here you need to pick the size of the outdoors. One outdoor section will be more than enough for 'Pesky Goblins', so let's leave it at 1 x 1. However, if you're making your own scenario and you're not sure how big you'll need your outdoors to be, err on the side of too big. It's impossible (or at least very tricky) to increase the outdoors size after you create a scenario, and there's never any harm in having too many outdoors squares, as you can always wall them off. The other thing you need to decide at this point is if you want to import 'Warrior's Grove', a basic town with shops and inns and stuff. 'Pesky Goblins' won't be needing it, and the town won't really fit in the majority of scenarios. Take a look at it if you want, but it's always better to make your own starter town that fits with your scenario's story.

Click 'OK' for this box, and the next two that pop up, and you're done. If you were to start Blades of Avernum right now and try play your new scenario, you wouldn't find it in the scenario list. This is because new scenarios are created in the same directory as the Editor. You need to move the pesky folder from the Blades of Avernum\Data directory and place it in the Blades of Avernum\Blades of Avernum Scenarios directory. Now you'll be able to test your scenario as you develop it.

If you want, start Blades of Avernum to double-check that 'Pesky Goblins' is in the scenarios list. Don't bother playing it, though; the starting town will be completely empty. Let's change that...
