BJ Earles:
Howdy.
GM Lilith:
hello
BJ Earles:
I'm gonna go start a pizza and do some other stuff. I should be back in time.
sylae:
hello
GM Lilith:
hi!!!
Sarachim:
Hi, everybody!
Audrey Martel:
hi sara
GM Lilith:
ok so now we're just waiting on the dintster
sylae:
yeah pants
sylae:
he isn't on calref or aim, it seems :|
Audrey Martel:
he isn't on CR, which- yeah, bad sign
GM Lilith:
bbb i hope everything's okay
GM Lilith:
it'd be annoying if we had to postpone the session because he died
Audrey Martel:
i meant, bad sign for him showing up, not for his life :p
GM Lilith:
welp, we'll give him some more time i guess. if he doesn't show what's people's feeling on going on without him vs postponing the session?
Sarachim:
I'm okay either way.
GM Lilith:
oh well problem solved
Sarachim:
yay
BJ Earles:
Hm. Well, it's been a while since our last session, and we're not likely to get another one until the holiday seasson is over. Going on... point rendered mote. :)
BJ Earles:
Hey Dinti. :)
sylae:
PANTS
dintiradan:
Sorry for keeping y'all waiting.
sylae:
:)
Sarachim:
No worries.
Audrey Martel:
paaaaaaaaal
dintiradan:
paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal
GM Lilith:
welp, everyone ready?
Audrey Martel:
yup
Jered:
GTG.
GM Lilith:
what, already?
Sarachim:
Like a Jedi
BJ Earles:
Ready-ish. I'll pop out when the pizza is ready and be back quick.
Sarachim:
He means good to go
GM Lilith:
i know :v
Sarachim:
I think, anyway
Jered:
Whoops, sorry, didn't even think of that. :P
sylae:
ready
GM Lilith:
okay, so last session you basically debriefed with Eshi, got introduced to a couple of helpful Wireldi mages, and travelled to Halitarn where you set out for Lentoir. that about cover it?
BJ Earles:
Yeah, pretty much. :P
Jered:
Jered is picking up a crate of boozefruit for the journey.
GM Lilith:
Are you going to be taking the party's horses and Leila's zombies with you on the ship?
BJ Earles:
Yes to both, please.
Sarachim:
Probably wise, yeah.
Sarachim:
Though horses do eat a lot.
Jered:
ZOMBIE HORSES
Sarachim:
And if we have to turn back, we'll have lost a lot of time.
BJ Earles:
It's possible we could leave the horses behind.
Sarachim:
I've changed my own mind. I'm leaving my horse with the druids, if they'll look after it.
BJ Earles:
Hm, yeah, same here.
GM Lilith:
Okay. They'll be happy to do so if you want them to.
GM Lilith:
Do any of you /not/ want to leave your horses behind, then?
BJ Earles:
Most definately bringing the zombie horde though.
sylae:
I guess I'll leave mine behind as well :P
GM Lilith:
Audrey, what about yours?
Audrey Martel:
I'm taking it. I dunno why not.
Jered:
(If I ever run a campaign, it will be in a world where horses are extinct. And grappling is punishable by death. :P )
BJ Earles:
(Heh.)
Sarachim:
(My next campaign idea is for a setting without horses.)
Sarachim:
(Not just because I hate them, it's just a coincidence)
BJ Earles:
Brb.
GM Lilith:
(fun fact: my girlfriend hates horses but still owns a horse mask. go figure)
Audrey Martel:
(memes trump personal taste, always)
GM Lilith:
Your ship has departed from the port of Eplind on Halitarn, bound for the cursed island of Lentoir. It's well-crewed and supplied, but stocked for efficiency rather than luxury: you're going to be living mostly on hardtack for the near future. The sky is clear and a strong, cold autumn breeze is blowing: your destination is still far away, but if this weather continues you'll at least be making good time.
Sailor 3:
draws 10 of Hearts
Sarachim:
Welp, here come the krakens.
BJ Earles:
(Back.)
GM Lilith:
After a few days of travel, you begin to notice changes in the sky.
GM Lilith:
Even outside of the scattered red specks, it's taken on a faint purplish tone all over, and when you look up with a telescope you can see that it's riven with thin red lines, like spiderwebs or hairline cracks.
GM Lilith:
What's more, Jered and Bekora are beginning to feel the urge to climb the mast and the scar growing more intense than it ever has before.
GM Lilith:
Begin. I'll need Spirit rolls from Jered and Bekora, at a -2 penalty.
Sarachim:
Hmm. Does my previous research say anything about this?
Jered:
Spirit Roll: 11 Wild Roll: 4
You Aced!
Bekora Tiquo:
Spirit Roll: 1 Wild Roll: 4
Spirit rolled a 1
Bekora Tiquo:
(maybe I'm benny, but I doubt it'll help with d4-2 :|)
Sarachim:
(why do you have a parasite and d4 spirit)
GM Lilith:
Hmm. Roll Arcana for it, Roxy.
Sarachim:
(how did we let that happen)
Audrey Martel:
(Kepling did too :P)
Rokhsana:
ArcaneLore Roll: 2 Wild Roll: 4
Jered:
(I'd like to point out that for my last two levelups I bumped my Spirit and gave myself Elan. :P )
GM Lilith:
Rokhsana believes the cracks and discolouration are a sign that the Firmament is weakening -- not yet to a critical level, but she'd estimate that it's operating at roughly half the strength it was when the bloodstained sky phenomenon first began to be studied.
Jered:
(Of course, increasing my Spirit came before infection, but still. :P )
Bekora Tiquo:
(well, my character is also crap at everything except repairing things, so it's not like I can do that much harm, riiight? :P)
GM Lilith:
(also blasting things with lightning)
GM Lilith:
Meanwhile, Bekora is finding her body moving of its own accord toward the nearest mast. She's as least got enough control to call out a warning if she wants people to stop her, though.
Sarachim:
Has anyone been watching her?
GM Lilith:
I was about to ask. :P
Leila Rithorn:
I'm busy looking at the sky, not at Bekora.
Jered:
(Jered wouldn't be watching her specifically. On the other hand he is super good at noticing things... :P )
Audrey Martel:
Audrey's watching the ship generally, and is right next to the mast, so. . .
Bekora Tiquo:
I call out at the nearest sailer, or preferably, party member. "Gah...help! Someone get me belowdecks!"
Audrey Martel:
Though I don't think she knows what's going on.
Jered:
(Hmm, actually, not that good. But still probably better than anyone else here.)
Leila Rithorn:
I look toward Bekora when I hear her and run to stand between her and the mast.
Rokhsana:
"Bekora! Somebody grab her!"
Jered:
"You too, huh? Alright, let's go. I wouldn't mind getting away for a while myself."
Audrey Martel:
"Hah! Seasick, are ya? You'll wanna stay up here for that."
Leila Rithorn:
"Bekora, stop. You must not mark the sky."
GM Lilith:
Fortunately, the parasite infesting Bekora doesn't appear to give her any kind of supernatural strength -- once the crew is aware of the situation, it's a relatively easy task to overpower her and stop her from progressing further. What are you going to do now, tie her up until she snaps out of it?
Bekora Tiquo:
(thats my fetish)
Leila Rithorn:
Seems logical.
Audrey Martel:
(you forgot the .jpg :P)
GM Lilith:
Bekora is taken below deck and securely but safely restrained. She exhausts herself struggling for a few hours, but eventually the parasite seems to give up and release its hold on her, at least for now.
Leila Rithorn:
"Well, it looks like we're going to find something out here at least. Whether that's good or bad..."
GM Lilith:
As the next day dawns, a tiny, rocky island comes into view on the horizon to the south. If anyone's on lookout duty, roll Notice.
Jered:
Notice Roll: 2 Wild Roll: 3
Jered:
5 after Alertness.
Jered:
(I'm assuming Jered's gonna be the primary lookout? Are we also going to do roc patrols?)
Leila Rithorn:
(That's what I was thinking.)
Leila Rithorn:
(Jered plus zombie roc means a good chance at finding something.)
GM Lilith:
It's hard to tell for sure from this distance whether the island is inhabited or not. It looks too small and barren to support more than one or two little fishing villages at most, but you do notice smoke rising from somewhere on it, and a little cluster of familiar red marks in the sky above.
Rokhsana:
"Dear gods. There hasn't been a discovery of a new island in centuries."
Audrey Martel:
"It ain't new. It's old."
Leila Rithorn:
"Clearly we're not the first to find it. I'm wondering what sort of people would want to live on an island like that."
Audrey Martel:
"It's got a name, even."
Rokhsana:
I frown. "I doubt this is Lentoir, but we'll see."
Jered:
"It doesn't have a lava titan. That's a point in its favour."
Leila Rithorn:
"Assuming that it is Lentoir."
Rokhsana:
"As I say, Leila, I doubt we're there yet. It's too small, and we haven't gone far enough. It doesn't match any surviving record."
GM Lilith:
You're going to approach the island more closely, then? It'd be possible to steer away and go around it, although it'd cost you some time.
Leila Rithorn:
Nah, go toward it. Let's check this puppy out.
Rokhsana:
I say we approach. They might have useful information, and we could top off our supplies.
Leila Rithorn:
(brb)
Rokhsana:
Plus, they've probably got their own parasite situation to resolve.
Jered:
Those were my thoughts too.
Bekora Tiquo:
it'd be silly to not at least pop our heads in
Leila Rithorn:
(back.)
GM Lilith:
As you approach the island, you spot small, crude canoes in the water near a beach, each containing one or two humanoid figures. One of the figures appears to notice you, and waves to the others -- the canoes all begin to paddle toward the shore.
Rokhsana:
"Anybody here good with languages?"
Leila Rithorn:
I smirk. "I thought that's what you were here for."
Rokhsana:
"Well, I can try."
GM Lilith:
Drawing even closer, you see that the figures have taken position on the beach and turned to face you. They're all human, and many are armed with short wooden spears. They don't appear to be holding them in a threatening pose, but they're not hiding that they have them either -- they're just standing there, spears planted in the sand, watching and waiting to see what you do.
Rokhsana:
"Keep your weapons sheathed when we land, boys."
Audrey Martel:
"Well, this place looks like it sucks."
Leila Rithorn:
"Are those wooden spears they're holding? That would be adorable if it weren't so sad."
GM Lilith:
The island itself looks unremarkable enough, with a stand of simple huts near the beach and scattered trees further inland.
Jered:
"Let's not be assholes, guys."
Rokhsana:
(afk a few minutes)
Jered:
"Unless they're assholes first. Then we can have the bird eat them."
Leila Rithorn:
"Fair enough."
Leila Rithorn:
(We're such a friendly lot, aren't we? :P )
GM Lilith:
Are you going to go ahead and land on the beach, then?
Leila Rithorn:
Yeah, we'll head to the beach.
Bekora Tiquo:
(are we just...pulling right up to it, or do we have to take a little boat in)
GM Lilith:
(Probably a good idea to take a boat, unless you want to beach your ship.)
Leila Rithorn:
(We'd probably take a small boat, though we could go in style and use the bird.)
Jered:
(Let's go with a longboat and not traumatize anyone.)
GM Lilith:
Going to take just the party with you, or bring crew and/or zombies along?
Bekora Tiquo:
(maybe take some sailors with us, in case it gets hairy, we might need meatshields)
Leila Rithorn:
Taking my five blessed zombies. No way am I leaving my meatshields behind this time.
Jered:
"Taking your walking corpses is gonna be a bad idea. Just calling it right now."
Leila Rithorn:
"I did not ask you for your advice on the matter, Jered."
Jered:
"Tough. I'm giving it anyway."
Bekora Tiquo:
I shrug "They've probably already seen the bird."
Leila Rithorn:
"I wonder if I should have it fly over their heads while we approach..."
Rokhsana:
(back)
Jered:
"Are... are we the baddies?"
Rokhsana:
"Please try not to provoke or frighten them, Leila."
Leila Rithorn:
"I do not mean to provoke them. Quite the opposite. If they see we are strong, they will be discouraged from attacking us."
Bekora Tiquo:
"Yeah, I don't think scaring them off will do us much good. Best to save that surprise for when we need it"
GM Lilith:
The party, along with Leila's undead entourage, packs into two of the ship's boats and makes landfall. The islanders make no move to stop you from landing, but watch you closely and line up along the beach to block you from advancing any closer to the village. They look at you warily, seeming especially disconcerted by the presence of Leila's zombies.
Leila Rithorn:
I nod. "Very well. The bird stays on the ship."
Rokhsana:
"If you insist on bringing your. . . servants, then at least leave them in the rowboat. They'll be close enough if we need them."
Bekora Tiquo:
I make sure I have Giken Nomang holstered and board the boat.
Rokhsana:
I get out of the boat, and advance slowly with my hands clearly in view. "Hello! I am Rokhsana of Wireld. We do not mean you any harm!"
Jered:
I'm with the others, bow in hand, and willing to let Rokhsana do the talking for now.
GM Lilith:
After a few moments of awkward silence and wary glances at each other, one of the islanders, dressed in somewhat dirty clothing woven from some kind of rough plant fibre, speaks.
Islander:
"The People do not know you. The People do not know this Wireld. Why are you here?"
Rokhsana:
"We are explorers who wish to find new islands. We want to be friends."
Islander:
"Ah. You want gifts, then?"
Leila Rithorn:
"Gifts? What exactly did you have in mind?"
Islander:
"Yes, this is good. You are in need. We will help you." She looks back and shouts to some people working on a canoe further up the beach. "Come, that can wait. Bring food for these lost ones now."
Rokhsana:
I whisper to Leila. "Be careful. Nobody's this nice to strangers."
Islander:
"You will eat with us, yes? You are hungry, lost ones?"
Leila Rithorn:
I whisper back. "I agree. There is something of which we are not aware of happening here."
Rokhsana:
To the islanders: "We will, and we are. While we eat, we can tell you about our home, and you can tell us about yours."
Audrey Martel:
"I'm gonna guess it's fish."
Jered:
"So long as it isn't hardtack, I'm happy."
Leila Rithorn:
"Or the eels they serve near Pelinora."
Audrey Martel:
"It is hard to screw up fish, I guess. Sure, food's good."
Leila Rithorn:
"We will happily dine with you."
Jered:
"Are we gonna have to give gifts back or something?"
Rokhsana:
"If they don't try to kill us, we'll give 'em something before we go."
Audrey Martel:
"Well, you did mention hardtack."
GM Lilith:
You are led further up on the beach, where a firepit is being prepared. The islanders bring fish and green bananas, and begin to cook them together over the fire.
Bekora Tiquo:
"Maybe they have a windmil or something I can repair." I look around, "Or...a fish mill?"
Bekora Tiquo:
"Clearly these people are in need of mechanical salvation"
Islander:
"You are not like the other lost ones who have come here. You look different, and you come from the other way." She points to the north, where you indeed came from.
Rokhsana:
"How often do people come from the south?" I try not to look too excited.
Leila Rithorn:
"These other people sound very interesting. What are they like?"
Islander:
"Not often. Maybe once a year, maybe less. The canoes they come in are different also. Smaller than yours, and strange."
Rokhsana:
"What do their canoes look like?"
Islander:
"They are of a wood that does not grow here. Like old bark in some parts, like sunlight on water in others."
Islander:
"Those on them are lost. They have forgotten how to be people, in body and mind. They see us and do not understand what we do and how we live. We give them food, for they have none, but we do not let them stay."
Audrey Martel:
"Metal ships?"
Rokhsana:
Have we seen any metal on the island?
Islander:
"Metal? Do you know this wood? Is this what you call it?"
GM Lilith:
Rokhsana: not so far.
Leila Rithorn:
"That sounds rather unrealistic."
Audrey Martel:
I show him my dagger. "Like this?"
Leila Rithorn:
I show them the blade of my rapier. "Is it like this?"
Rokhsana:
"I don't see how a metal ship would float, but I guess your group has seen stranger things on Oelis."
Islander:
The islander looks at your weapons with some excitement. "Yes! Yes! The gifts they give us are of the same wood, but yours have less bark on them, more strong heartwood. These are your gifts for us, yes, lost ones?"
Jered:
"Bark... maybe they mean rust?"
Leila Rithorn:
"Um. We have similar items on our ship. We could give some of them to you."
Rokhsana:
"Yes, we will give you some items like this. But tell me more about these strange people. Why do you say they've forgotten how to be people?"
Islander:
"They do not know how to catch fish, or which plants are good to gather and which are not. We think they cannot even swim!"
Islander:
"They cause only trouble if we let them stay, so we send them away after we feed them. We do not know what happens to them after that."
Rokhsana:
"What do they look like?"
Islander:
"Not like us. Like..." She gestures toward the lacewing zombies. "like those quiet ones there, a little. Faces like dead fish washed up on the beach, but bodies shaped like you and me."
Leila Rithorn:
I glance at my zombies for a second and turn back to the islander. "Like them? And they appear once every year on boats made of metal covered in rust. This is becoming quite the strange tale."
Rokhsana:
"Have they told you anything about how to find their home? It is very important that we find them."
Leila Rithorn:
"Do they say anything about where they come from?"
GM Lilith:
The first batch of fish and bananas are taken off the fire. They're served on a kind of makeshift blanket made from banana leaves laid out on the beach. The islanders begin to grab handfuls of the food and eat it, gesturing for you to do the same.
Rokhsana:
I do so.
Bekora Tiquo:
I as well
Jered:
I join in.
Leila Rithorn:
I gingerly take some of the food, trying not to make a mess in the process.
Audrey Martel:
Audrey eats heartily.
Islander:
The islander who's been talking to you continues to speak through a mouthful of roast fish. "They are from a very bad place in the south, where there is no food and they are hunted all the time. They must hide in holes in the ground to survive. We think this is why they forgot to be people."
Leila Rithorn:
"That sounds very dangerous. Do they go back to this place when you send them away?"
Islander:
"Some do, we think. Some try to go other ways. We do not see the same lost ones twice."
Audrey Martel:
"If they've got boats, why do they come here."
Leila Rithorn:
"Hm. It's unlikely any made it back to Halitarn, though I assume not impossible."
Rokhsana:
"They must not know about the known islands. I mean. . . well, you know what I mean."
Rokhsana:
"Certainly we would know about them, if they ever visited."
Jered:
"Maybe they stop here for food? Or maybe they're the ones causing the wounds in the sky here?"
Jered:
Do any of the islanders show signs of parasite infection?
Leila Rithorn:
"Perhaps. Perhaps not. Would you have listened to someone who claimed to have come from the south on a big piece of metal before all of this happened?"
GM Lilith:
Jered -- not the ones gathered before you, from what you can see.
Islander:
"The sky? What is this about the sky being wounded?"
Rokhsana:
"You have seen the red marks in the sky, yes?"
Islander:
"Ah, yes. Do not worry about those. They are good omens. They are signs our healer's magic is working."
Leila Rithorn:
I exchange a very meaningful glance with my companions.
Islander:
"If you are sick, we can bring you to him. Many of the lost ones ask for our help."
Islander:
"Now that his power is greater, we can help you more."
Rokhsana:
"We have spoken for some time now, but you haven't told us your name. May I ask what it is?"
Jered:
(Arya. :P )
Rokhsana:
(Really? :P)
Leila Rithorn:
(?)
Jered:
(Not that I'm one to talk, as I'm using Theon. :P )
Rokhsana:
(Speaking of bad omens. :P)
Islander:
"My name? Ra'aya. Do you have names also, lost ones?"
Rokhsana:
"Rokhsana."
Jered:
"Jered."
Bekora Tiquo:
"Bekora Tiquo"
Leila Rithorn:
"You may call me Leila. I suppose titles do not mean much out here."
Ra'aya:
"Hmm. Not normal lost one names. That makes sense, if you are not from the normal lost one place."
Audrey Martel:
"Audrey."
Jered:
"Or anywhere, really," I add with a smirk at Leila.
Leila Rithorn:
I glare at Jered.
Ra'aya:
Ra'aya looks at Audrey. "Yours is. You look like you could be a normal lost one, too, maybe. Not quite so bad as usual."
Rokhsana:
"Listen, Rayaya. Please do not be upset, but these omens in the sky are not good. They come from an evil goddess, Ammat-Xan, who promises good things but delivers bad ones in the end. She destroyed the home of these ones here. . . " I gesture to the original party members.
Audrey Martel:
"Eh? Other goblins? Uglier 'n me? I doubt it."
Ra'aya:
"Ah. That is why you are here, then?"
Rokhsana:
"Yes, it is. We hope that the lost ones from the south know things about her that can help us."
Ra'aya:
"I have told you, they do not even know how to find food."
Rokhsana:
"Even so, we have to try."
Ra'aya:
"We will not stop you from going to the bad place, if that is your wish."
Leila Rithorn:
"It is our intention."
Rokhsana:
"That's good. But before we go, we want to help you. We need to talk to your healer, and explain to him that he's in danger."
Ra'aya:
"You think you can help him? You think he needs help?"
Rokhsana:
"Yes. The magic in him is taking his mind away. But we've helped others like him before."
Ra'aya:
Ra'aya laughs. "What a strange day. A lost one wants to heal our healer. You can see him, if you need to. You will not harm him. You will be watched. Do you understand?"
Rokhsana:
"Yes. Thank you. You're doing the right thing."
Leila Rithorn:
I nod.
Leila Rithorn:
"So where is this esteemed healer?"
GM Lilith:
At Ra'aya's command, a group of the islanders surround you and escort you to a large round hut near the middle of the village. You're led inside, where you see a tall human man sitting cross-legged in the middle of the hut, grinding and mixing herbs with a mortar and pestle. The walls are lined with plain but well-made wooden shelves covered in various items -- herbs, powders, and tools both familiar and strange. A few of the items are made of metal -- you recognise one of them as a gun similar to the one Bekora carries, although in poorer condition.
Healer:
The healer looks up as you enter. "Are you lost ones in need of my help? You look different. Healthier than usual."
Leila Rithorn:
"We are not necessarily the ones in need of help."
Rokhsana:
"We're healthy, thanfully, but we need to talk to you."
Healer:
"Ah. You have brought others here in need of help, then? They cannot walk? I must come to them?"
Leila Rithorn:
I shake my head. "No. We wish to discuss the red marks in the sky. You are the one making them, yes?"
Healer:
"Yes. I draw power from the sky to heal those who are in need."
Rokhsana:
"That's interesting. How did you learn how to do this?"
Healer:
"I found a strange fish washed up on the shore last season. I took it to my hut to examine it, but it came apart and dissolved to nothing in my hands. Ever since..." He shows you his hands, the palms of which are stained bright red.
Healer:
"These hands of mine now have the power to heal even without medicine, and to make medicine stronger. It is a great blessing. We assume it is a reward from the gods for the People's hospitality."
Rokhsana:
"But how did you know to mark the sky? Did someone come to tell you about it?"
Leila Rithorn:
"It seems you're playing host to an Ammat-Xan parasite then. Trust me, this blessing you've been given comes with a cost."
Jered:
"It's... just something you feel you have to do."
Rokhsana:
I hiss: "I know that, Jered."
Healer:
"How do you know the way to move your legs when you walk? It comes naturally."
Rokhsana:
"I'm afraid the fish you found had a very strange sickness. It gives power at first, but it comes at a terrible cost. You are in grave danger."
Healer:
"Tell me what you know of this, lost ones. It does seem like the sort of strangeness that your kind sometimes understand better than we do."
Leila Rithorn:
"From what we understand, there is a barrier put in place long ago which protects our world from an evil creature called Ammat-Xan. As long as the barrier is intact, she cannot come into our world. However, she has sent these creatures, like the strange fish you found, to find people who would weaken this barrier for her. Whenever you use your newfound powers, you draw energy from that barrier. Thus over time the barrier weakens."
Rokhsana:
"This barrier is in the sky, and it turns red because it is bleeding."
Healer:
"And you know this because there are others doing the same?"
Bekora Tiquo:
"You are not the only one in the room with this curse"
Leila Rithorn:
"Yes. We've seen it at nearly every island we've been to. And it isn't just creatures like you or I which Ammat-Xan will use. We have seen a creature of fire and earth be born to wound the sky for Ammat-Xan, at the expense of people's lives."
Healer:
"So I assume you are here to tell me how to use these powers without doing harm, then."
Rokhsana:
"It's more complicated than that. If you try to resist, the parasite will try to compel you."
Audrey Martel:
"You gotta be tied down if you can't resist on your own."
Rokhsana:
"But I guess, if the People watch you and help you, you might be okay. That's how we help the lost ones with this curse."
Healer:
"Is that all you have come to tell me?"
Rokhsana:
"Is that all?" I glare. "We tell you that you are the unwitting servant of an ancient and terrible evil, and you say 'is that all?'"
Leila Rithorn:
"Is that not enough? We're telling you that this power of yours will cause trouble for your poeple, but you don't seem very concerned by this news."
Healer:
"If there was anything more to do about it, you would have said so, yes?"
Healer:
"So you have told me the problem and you have told me what you want me to do. Will being concerned help?"
Leila Rithorn:
"Well... we can remove the parasite."
Rokhsana:
"You would lose your magic, but the people would be safe."
Healer:
"Safe, until one of them is bitten by a tree viper while gathering fruit or touches a spiny deathfish while diving for oysters."
Audrey Martel:
"We don't gotta take it. He knows."
Rokhsana:
"Maybe you should ask the People what they want you to do."
Healer:
"Good. You see sense. You have said all you have to say: this is a matter for us now."
Rokhsana:
"The People might have more questions for us about this matter. Maybe we should stay a while."
Jered:
"We have to send for our gifts from the ship anyway."
Audrey Martel:
"What? We don't wanna stay here. This was a nice break from the boat, but we got places to be."
Ra'aya:
Ra'aya, who's been watching you from near the entrance, speaks up. "Remember what I said. We do not allow lost ones to stay here. We will take your gifts, you will tell us anything more you think we need to know, and you will leave."
Ra'aya:
"This Ammat-Xan you have warned us about: what kind of creature is it? Is it like a shark, or a snake?"
Leila Rithorn:
Have we heard any accounts of what AX is supposed to look like?
Rokhsana:
"It is a god. Do you know of the gods?"
Leila Rithorn:
I snort. "There are those who claim it to be a god."
Ra'aya:
"Of course. But the gods have always been good to us, as long as we followed their laws."
Rokhsana:
I think carefully. "Ammat-Xan is an enemy of the other gods. The gods we know are from the sea, the land, and the sky, but Ammat-Xan is from the space beyond the sky."
Audrey Martel:
"Yeah, Ammat-Xan's from somewhere else, and it wants in, and it doesn't care how much it's gotta wreck to do it."
Ra'aya:
"So the barrier you talked about is between the sky and what is beyond, where Ammat-Xan is?"
Jered:
(afk for a bit)
Rokhsana:
"Yes."
Ra'aya:
"Can we repair this barrier, or strengthen it? Even if we used our strongest cloth, I do not know how we would keep it in the sky."
Leila Rithorn:
"That is a question we would like to answer as well. We are hoping to find answers in a place called Lentoir, likely to the south of here."
Ra'aya:
"And this Lentoir, you think this is the same as the bad place where the other lost ones come here from?"
Rokhsana:
"We do."
Leila Rithorn:
"It is a possiblity."
Leila Rithorn:
*possibility
Ra'aya:
"Do you think you can go there and not die? Even people from there want to leave."
Rokhsana:
"We're stronger than we look, and we have no choice but to try."
Leila Rithorn:
"I have confidence. We possess strength unseen, like Rokhsana speaks of."
Ra'aya:
"As I said, it is your choice. We will not stop you. But you seem good and we do not want you to die."
Bekora Tiquo:
"We don't want us to die either, but we must fight this fight anyway"
Rokhsana:
"Thanks!" I smile.
Audrey Martel:
"Well, we don't wanna die either."
Ra'aya:
"If that is all, we will take your gifts and you will go."
Jered:
(back)
Rokhsana:
(So, we gonna go and trust these people, or press the issue of the parasite?)
Audrey Martel:
(I say trust em)
Leila Rithorn:
I sigh. "Well, if everything goes well we will be back this way with more answers than we have now."
Leila Rithorn:
(I say move on and come back later.)
Rokhsana:
(Jered? Bek?)
Jered:
(Jered's got opinions, but I'd rather share 'em IC. :P )
Jered:
(He's not pressing the issue, at any rate.)
Bekora Tiquo:
(move on, come back)
Leila Rithorn:
"Thank you for your hospitality." I move to exit the hut.
Ra'aya:
"Of course." Ra'aya steps aside to let you leave.
Rokhsana:
"Very well. Here is what you need to know: you must not mark the sky any more. If you feel the urge to do so, you must resist. You must be watched at all times, especially at night, by someone with the power to stop you if you attempt it. We may return this way, and if we find that you have ignored our warnings, Ammat-Xan will not be your only problem. Is this clear?"
Audrey Martel:
Audrey stumps along after Leila.
Healer:
"You speak clearly, lost ones."
Rokhsana:
"Good. Goodbye. Thank you for your hospitality." I follow the others.
Jered:
"Thanks for the food."
Rokhsana:
But slowly, in case any of the islanders want to catch up and talk to me.
Ra'aya:
"We feed all lost ones who come here. If you survive to come back, we will feed you again."
Leila Rithorn:
I lead the way back to the boats, with zombies in tow.
Jered:
"Sounds like a plan."
Audrey Martel:
"Glad I don't have to eat here every day", Audrey mutters.
GM Lilith:
You return to the boats, escorted by Ra'aya and her people. Are you going to leave some gifts for the islanders, or just take off?
Rokhsana:
We should leave gifts. Let's round up whatever stay metal stuff we can afford to spare and hand it over.
Leila Rithorn:
I think we could scrounge up some spare metal tools from the ship.
Bekora Tiquo:
This is the same ship we had before, right? If so, I could forge up some metal spearheads or something
Leila Rithorn:
They're not getting my sword though. :P
Bekora Tiquo:
i mean, they like spears right
Bekora Tiquo:
thats their thing
GM Lilith:
Are you gonna do that, Bekora? I mean, it'd take time. You could always work on them on the way to Lentoir and drop them off on the way back, I guess.
Rokhsana:
I say we make it quick.
Leila Rithorn:
Make it quick.
Rokhsana:
The world's on the clock.
Jered:
Jered wants to give them stuff now. If we don't have enough spare tools on the ship, I'm willing to part with either my dagger or my axe.
Bekora Tiquo:
was just a thought. throw some tools at them
Bekora Tiquo:
(i can always make replacement tools, i guess ;P)
Rokhsana:
But it might be a good idea to forge some during the trip, in case we need to win them over when we come back.
Leila Rithorn:
You can make some spearheads in advance for the next visit.
Rokhsana:
I have a feeling our next visit will be a lot harder.
GM Lilith:
You leave the islanders with gifts of a few spare hammers and knives from the ship, which they accept gratefully, before you set sail to continue on your journey.
Jered:
"Nice folk."
Rokhsana:
"Not very bright, though."
Leila Rithorn:
"They seemed entirely too unconcerned by the end of the world for my taste."
Jered:
I shake my head. "Cityfolk would think that, I guess."
Audrey Martel:
"Yeah, well, if I lived on that shitty island and ate bananas and fish every day, I wouldn't be too torn up about it either."
Leila Rithorn:
"Exactly what is that suppose to mean, Jered?"
Audrey Martel:
"Not like they can do anything about it anyways."
Jered:
"That was at Rokhsana, not you. Though you're as cityfolk as they come."
Bekora Tiquo:
"They are concerned only with their island. All they know is forging, they have no care of where the embers fall"
Audrey Martel:
"That's fancy."
Bekora Tiquo:
I shrug, "We will come back and nothing will have changed. There's little we can do"
Leila Rithorn:
"Well, our efforts are on their behalf as well, I suppose."
Rokhsana:
"Hopefully they prove me wrong. I doubt it, though."
Jered:
"Not much we can do. Or should do, even."
Jered:
"I mean, there's only so many of us. Unless you want to give parasites to the sailors too. We can't stop them on every island."
Jered:
"And on this one, they were using it to heal people. It's not like it was back home. Or on Halitarn or Oelis."
Rokhsana:
"We could kill them. I understand your group has done this before."
Jered:
"Or Wireld."
Bekora Tiquo:
(i don't even want to know what sort of gift ammat-xan would give a sailor. "Here, i grant you superhuman deck-scrubbing abilities"
Jered:
"Only when they were being jerks about it, Rok."
Rokhsana:
"So if we come back and they haven't done anything, does that make them jerks? I ask only so I can better understand the group's methods."
Leila Rithorn:
"The only time we have killed a host was on Elpis, and that was at the request of the then Grand Marshall."
Rokhsana:
"Ah, yes, the Eldest Daughter affair. I. . . read about it."
GM Lilith:
(Let me know when you're all done arguing and ready to move on. I shoulda brought popcorn. :P)
Audrey Martel:
"Who cares if they're jerks. If they're still messing with Ammat-Xan and won't stop, we'd just have to kill that guy."
Leila Rithorn:
I glance sideways at Rokhsana. "I was there."
Rokhsana:
(I've got nothing urgent left to say. I guess I'm ready when the others are.)
Jered:
(Let us have our IC fun, Lilith. :P )
GM Lilith:
(I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure you're not getting bored. :P)
Leila Rithorn:
(I'm ready to move on when everyone else is.)
Bekora Tiquo:
(same)
Audrey Martel:
(sure, we can go.)
GM Lilith:
Another three weeks pass more or less uneventfully. Some days the winds are fair and you make good progress; at other times, you can do little but sit and wait. For a few nights, Bekora is troubled by vivid dreams of columns of red light shining down from the sky and burning her flesh as voices whisper indecipherable words to her in angry tones, but eventually they fade.
Rokhsana:
"Tannan damn the ocean. If we don't find Lentoir in fifteen minutes I'm going to drown myself, see if I don't."
Bekora Tiquo:
I stay belowdecks as much as possible, in case the parasite tries to get the better of me again
Jered:
"Why are you the one complaining? I've gotta ride on that rotting bird every day."
GM Lilith:
Early one morning, about a month after you first set out from Halitarn, you finally catch sight of land again. It's a larger island than the one where you met Ra'aya's people, but from here it looks even more rocky and barren. The weather's grown much colder, and it doesn't help that the sky above the island is an angry mass of stormclouds, speckled here and there with red marks.
Audrey Martel:
"This is nothing. I once had to spend twenty months without getting off a boat. You be thankful we at least have a destination."
Rokhsana:
Is there any sign of people?
GM Lilith:
Driving rain and chilling winds whip against your bodies when you're above deck. It's winter now, of course, but even so this place is colder than the islands you're familiar with normally get at this time of year.
GM Lilith:
Hmmm... whoever's acting as lookout, roll Notice.
Jered:
Notice Roll: 3 Wild Roll: 1
Jered:
*shrugs* Benny.
Jered:
Wait, 5 is enough.
Rokhsana:
That's a nice edge.
Jered:
It really is.
Rokhsana:
Elan's still my favorite, though.
GM Lilith:
Jered braves the storm to fly atop Leila's roc and scout ahead. The island is as rocky and barren as it looked, with no visible life apart from a few stunted trees. He does see signs of past habitation, in the form of buildings in an unfamiliar architectural style -- most look old and ruined, but judging by the number and size of them there was once a great city on this island. He also sees indistinct shapes moving around inside the stormclouds in a way that doesn't look natural.
Jered:
I'm not willing to investigate the clouds by myself. I'll head back down and inform the others of what I've seen.
Jered:
(Dunno quite how zombie roc flying works, would I be up there by myself or with Leila?)
GM Lilith:
(Leila, I'm gonna say that one's your call. :P)
Leila Rithorn:
(I think Leila would go with you, even if she didn't need to be there.)
Leila Rithorn:
(It's her bird, and she's the one steering it. I'll say she goes.)
GM Lilith:
(Okay. Leila, anything in particular you want to do while you're up there with Jered?)
GM Lilith:
(wait that sounded dirty)
GM Lilith:
(i meant scouting-wise okay)
Audrey Martel:
(WELL NOW SHE DOES)
Jered:
(With a noblewoman? Jered has standards.)
Rokhsana:
(leila/jered 4EVA)
Leila Rithorn:
Nope. I assume Jered tells me about the shapes in the clouds, at which point I would want to get back to the ship to tell the others.
Jered:
("I'd rather kiss a zombie." "That could be arranged!")
Rokhsana:
Does this match any of the stories about Lentoir's destruction?
GM Lilith:
Hmm. Roll History or Religion for it, Roxy.
Rokhsana:
Religion Roll: 2 Wild Roll: 1
Rokhsana:
Eh, I'll keep that.
GM Lilith:
Rokhsana remembers hearing legends that Lentoir's destruction came from the sky, but no reliable details beyond that.
Rokhsana:
"This. . . this isn't what I expected. But considering its location, distance, and obvious disastrous state, I suspect this is our goal. I suggest we find some Lost Ones and say hello."
Leila Rithorn:
"Yes, this is likely what we're looking for. Keep a close eye on the sky, everyone. I don't like the look of those clouds."
Leila Rithorn:
Is there a way I could tell if the stormclouds were magical or just natural?
GM Lilith:
Sure, roll Arcana for it.
Leila Rithorn:
ArcaneLore Roll: 5 Wild Roll: 1
Leila Rithorn:
Not bad. I'll keep it.
GM Lilith:
Leila was able to sense telltale signs of summoning and abjuration magic at work in the storm clouds, somewhat similar to what was used to bind the lightning elementals in Iskania's weapon.
Leila Rithorn:
I let the other in on what I sense.
Rokhsana:
I speak to the captain about cruising along the shore until we see some sign of inhabitants.
Leila Rithorn:
*others
Jered:
"I'm guessing this is why the 'Lost Ones' went underground."
Leila Rithorn:
"Very likely, yes."
GM Lilith:
The wind and rain grow more intense as you draw close to Lentoir's coast: the ship's crew focus their efforts on navigating safely through the storm, while you talk among yourselves about Lentoir. Meanwhile, the rain is starting to do something that rain doesn't normally do: it's piling up into columnar masses of raging water on your deck, while the wind forms whirling eddies that tug at anything nearby.
Jered:
"Um."
Leila Rithorn:
"I think we're about to meet Lentoir's guardians. Everyone get ready!"
Jered:
"Looks like the storm wants to sink our boat."
Rokhsana:
"Cheer up, Jered. From what you've told me about your adventures, this is the longest you've gone without anything trying to kill you in a long time."
GM Lilith:

(A small burst template is 2 inches in diameter, a medium one is 4 and a large one is 6. You can use the drawing tools to draw a circle, or use the radius tool to draw something that looks close enough to a circle for government work but in a way that makes it easier to specify the centre.)
Bekora Tiquo:
(I specifically avoided any abilities with burst damage for this very reason :P)
Audrey Martel:
( you are wiser than i)
GM Lilith:
Don't forget to actually fire the gun as well, Bekora. :P
Audrey Martel:
I'll just use concussion on Water Elemental, then, while I figure it out.

Or I guess it's just dead. :P

(2d6e+1, not that it matters. :P)

Jered:
I hand the other end of the rope to Audrey and dive.
Leila Rithorn:
Once the last elemental is mince meat, I point to my roc and shout, "You, find and recover anyone who fell in the ocean. Now!"

Rokhsana:
Healing Roll: 3 Wild Roll: 4
Jered:
How many did we lose, then? Just the other one, or were there more?
Rokhsana:
Oops, that's for Leila. Also, benny.
Rokhsana:
Wait, never mind, I forgot I have the Healer edge.
Leila Rithorn:
Um, a four should be enough to make me well, right?
GM Lilith:
Just that one, although there were also a couple of serious injuries from the water elementals' attacks.
Rokhsana:
-1 for your wounds, Leila. But also +2 for Healer, so I think we're okay.
Rokhsana:
Rokhsana Turning Off Power Telekinesis
Leila Rithorn:
Oh, right. I forget about that.
Jered:
Yeah, once I'm recovered, I'll help out with the healing. Only non-magical, though.
GM Lilith:
With the crisis over, Rokhsana heals the rest of Leila's wounds.
Rokhsana:
"Hold still, woman, or I'll have to start over."
Jered:
Anyone still need it? Can't tell if the sailors do.
Leila Rithorn:
"Take care how you address a noble lady."
Leila Rithorn:
"Ow."
GM Lilith:
Jered treats the sailors injured in the fight as best he can: they should be able to return to duty after getting some rest.
Rokhsana:
(brb real quick)
GM Lilith:
The weather's still stormy, but it's behaving like a normal storm now. It seems like whatever force sent elementals to attack you is spent, at least for the moment.
Jered:
"There. Okay, Leila, once you're ready to go, you and me are gonna fly around, look for a safe place to anchor."
Rokhsana:
(back)
Leila Rithorn:
"Yes, of course. Let us proceed." I get on the roc and take off when Jered is on.
GM Lilith:
There's a little inlet a short distance further west along the north coast of Lentoir. With caution, it should be possible to navigate into it and anchor there. It'll be better than being on the open seas in this weather, anyway.
Leila Rithorn:
Once we've seen it, we'll head back to tell the others. I'll keep an eye on the sky to, to tell if there are more elementals coming.
GM Lilith:
Anything anyone wants to do before you go there and we wrap the session up?
Leila Rithorn:
Can't think of anything else.
Jered:
Don't think so.
Rokhsana:
I'm keeping an eye on Bekora at night, but that's later. :P
Bekora Tiquo:
(oh my)
Rokhsana:
(hey, not everyone from Wireld swings that way)
Leila Rithorn:
(*eyeroll*)
Jered:
(Would that be Rokora or Bekhsana?)
Audrey Martel:
(Bekhsana, clearly)
GM Lilith:
If the island you've arrived at is indeed Lentoir, it's every bit as forbidding as the legends say: a land of barren rock, ruined cities and raging storms. And yet, here you are, hoping to learn something about the nature and origins of the Firmament. Your ship navigates into the inlet and you prepare to disembark in search of the answers you seek.
GM Lilith:
End session.
Rokhsana:
Welp, that was a good one
Rokhsana:
Thanks, Lilith!
Jered:
Woo!
BJ Earles:
Wheee!
Bekora Tiquo:
yay session
